ISB Electrical attended a Westinghouse oven repair job in Coomera after the customer reported that the oven was tripping the RCBO on the switchboard whenever it was turned on.
The fault occurred immediately after selecting an oven function and prevented the appliance from operating normally.
The customer advised that the oven repeatedly tripped the safety switch (RCBO) and could not be used. Each attempt to operate the appliance caused power to disconnect.
We carried out insulation resistance testing on the oven elements, wiring and associated electrical components.
Individual testing was performed on the bake element, grill element, fan forced element to identify the source of the earth leakage fault.
The fan forced element failed insulation resistance testing and measured 0 Ohms to earth.
Because the element had developed a direct leakage path to earth, the RCBO correctly detected the fault current and disconnected power to protect the electrical installation.
The faulty fan forced element was identified as the cause of the tripping problem. Replacement of the defective element was recommended.
The remaining oven components tested within acceptable limits and no additional earth leakage faults were found.
An RCBO continuously monitors current flow and disconnects power when earth leakage is detected. This protection helps prevent electric shock and electrical fires.
