Westinghouse Fridge Display Not Working in Hope Island
ISB Electrical attended a Westinghouse refrigerator repair job in Hope Island where the customer reported that the display panel had stopped working completely.
The refrigerator was still operating and cooling, however the display was blank and temperature settings could not be viewed or adjusted.
Customer Complaint
The customer noticed that the display became intermittent before failing completely. In some cases the display would briefly operate when the door was moved, then switch off again.
Diagnosis
We inspected the display module, door wiring harness, connectors and communication circuits between the display and the main control system.
Particular attention was given to the wiring passing through the upper door hinge area, as repeated door movement can place stress on the wiring loom over many years of use.
Fault Found
Several wires inside the wiring harness at the top corner hinge area had broken internally.
Because the communication and power wiring to the display had been damaged, the display panel could no longer operate correctly. Movement of the door occasionally changed the symptoms due to intermittent electrical contact.
Repair Carried Out
The wiring harness was inspected and the damaged conductors were identified. The customer was advised regarding the required wiring repair to restore normal display operation.
