ISB Electrical attended a Samsung refrigerator repair job in Ormeau where the customer reported poor cooling performance and unusual fan noise coming from inside the fridge compartment.
The customer noticed that food was not staying cold enough and the refrigerator section was gradually becoming warmer while the freezer continued operating.
The refrigerator compartment was warm and a scraping noise could occasionally be heard from behind the rear panel.
The customer also noticed water collecting underneath the vegetable drawers.
The internal rear evaporator cover was removed for inspection. A large amount of ice was found built up around the evaporator and fan assembly.
Testing was carried out on the defrost heater, defrost sensor, thermofuse and drainage system.
The evaporator was completely iced up behind the rear panel due to a defrost system fault.
The defrost sensor was reading outside specification and the thermofuse was found open circuit. Because the automatic defrost cycle could not operate correctly, ice continued building up around the evaporator coil.
The evaporator fan was beginning to contact the ice build-up, creating noise and restricting airflow through the refrigerator compartment.
The refrigerator was defrosted and faulty components were identified. The customer was advised regarding replacement of the defective defrost system parts to restore normal operation.
Samsung refrigerators rely on an automatic defrost system to remove frost from the evaporator. When the defrost sensor, thermofuse, heater or control system fails, ice accumulates on the evaporator and eventually blocks airflow.
If your Samsung refrigerator has ice build up behind the rear panel in Ormeau or nearby Gold Coast suburbs, ISB Electrical can diagnose the fault and recommend the correct repair.
