LG Fridge Not Defrosting in Burleigh
ISB Electrical attended an LG refrigerator repair job in Burleigh where the customer reported poor cooling performance and unusual fan noise coming from the freezer compartment.
The refrigerator had excessive ice build-up behind the evaporator cover and was no longer completing automatic defrost cycles correctly.
Customer Complaint
The customer noticed that food was no longer staying cold enough and a scraping noise could be heard from inside the freezer compartment.
Cooling performance gradually deteriorated over several weeks before the refrigerator became unable to maintain proper temperatures.
Diagnosis
We removed the evaporator cover and inspected the evaporator assembly, fan motor, defrost heater, defrost sensor and wiring.
Heavy ice accumulation was found covering the evaporator coil and surrounding fan housing.
Fault Found
Testing confirmed that the defrost heater was open circuit.
Because the heater was unable to operate during automatic defrost cycles, ice continued building up around the evaporator assembly. Eventually the evaporator fan blade became stuck in the ice and airflow through the refrigerator was severely restricted.
Repair Carried Out
The evaporator section was completely defrosted and the faulty heater was identified. The customer was advised regarding replacement of the defective defrost heater to restore proper operation.
