LG Fridge Fan Noise in Pimpama
ISB Electrical attended an LG refrigerator repair job in Pimpama after the customer reported a loud scraping noise coming from inside the freezer compartment.
The customer noticed that the noise would come and go throughout the day and cooling performance had started to become inconsistent.
Customer Complaint
The refrigerator was making a loud fan noise from the freezer section. The customer was concerned that the fan motor had failed because the sound was becoming progressively worse.
Diagnosis
We removed the freezer evaporator cover and inspected the evaporator coil, fan motor, defrost sensor, heater circuit and thermofuse.
A large amount of ice had built up around the evaporator and fan housing.
Fault Found
The evaporator fan blade was striking accumulated ice during operation, creating the loud noise reported by the customer.
Further testing found the defrost sensor reading more than 35kΩ, which is outside the normal operating range. The faulty sensor was sending incorrect temperature information to the control board and preventing proper defrost operation.
Because the refrigerator was not completing defrost cycles correctly, excessive ice accumulated around the evaporator and fan assembly.
Repair Carried Out
The faulty defrost sensor was identified and replacement recommended. Excess ice was removed from the evaporator area and the complete defrost system was tested.
Once the defective sensor is replaced, the refrigerator can correctly monitor evaporator temperature and perform normal automatic defrost cycles.
