Fisher & Paykel Fridge Fan Noise in Robina
ISB Electrical attended a Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair job in Robina after the customer reported a loud fan noise coming from inside the freezer compartment.
The noise became progressively louder and was most noticeable when the refrigerator was running normally.
Customer Complaint
The customer advised that a scraping and rattling sound was coming from the freezer section. Cooling performance had also started to become inconsistent.
Diagnosis
We inspected the evaporator compartment, freezer fan motor, evaporator cover, defrost system and dual defrost sensors.
After removing the evaporator cover, significant ice build-up was found around the evaporator and freezer fan assembly.
Fault Found
The freezer fan blade was contacting accumulated ice during operation, creating the loud noise reported by the customer.
Further testing confirmed that the dual defrost sensor was faulty and providing incorrect readings to the control system. As a result, the refrigerator was not defrosting correctly, allowing excessive ice build-up around the evaporator and fan.
Repair Carried Out
The ice accumulation was removed and the evaporator area was cleared.
The faulty dual defrost sensor was identified as the cause of the problem and replacement was recommended to restore correct defrost operation and prevent the ice build-up from returning.
